a little tv, a little music ! (actually a lotta music )

hey everyone! sorry my entry is a little later this evening, i took some time to nap earlier... which really isn't much different from every other day ... except day was just extra long because of the gloomy weather, i mean really who wants to be awake when its all cloudy out ? well not me so there ya go.

so lets talk about some television first tonight!! specifically the FALL TV season ! , its quickly coming upon us, and tonight is no exception !, we have multiple premiers tonight, but what are the ones I'm going to be paying attention to you ask ? well i shall tell.

first we have the 2 hour premier of America's Next Top Model ( ANTM ) on the CW starting at 7pm (here in MN). who's excited ?! and more importantly, who wants to be on top?!

well i have an early favorite for this show, and i don't even know what she looks like yet! ha ha you're probably saying to yourself...what the hell is he talking about, well there is a girl from MN on ANTM this year!!, so of course my ass is gonna be rooting for the home town girl, even though lets face it, if we ever want someone from MN to win that shit our only hope is me, myself and i. HOLLA

next we have the season premier of So You Think You Can Dance ( SYTYCD ) on the Fox network tonight!, now ... i understand their want to capitalize while the show is still big...but really? they just crowned the season 5 winner a little over 2 months ago !!, maybe the fact that i cant even remember the winners name has something to do with it....since season 4 the show has been on a steady decline in the talent IMO, and season 5 was the worst so far, maybe they're hoping they just had a bad bunch of people this year and they're hoping for a stronger group this time around?

either way, I'm not sure how i feel about this being back on the air sooo soon!, how shitty for the girl who just won...instead of having a year to have the title of Americas favorite dancer, she gets what 6 months before the winner is crowned again in Jan? which is BTW, just in time for American Idol to start back up ...clever Fox.

after SYTYCD on fox, we have the premier of Glee ... well technically this is the second episode....but the first was just a pilot.. so if any of you are wondering, you probably shouldn't expect a continuation of the original story, seeing as series seasons usually go a different route than the pilot episode.

now... i would LOVE to be totally obsessed with Glee and hanging onto every word that is sung from those kid's mouths, but i have to be honest, as a 3 year veteran of a show choir from my own high school, and being very involved in choir every single year from 4Th grade till graduation, i was a little disappointed by the pilot episode, and my anticipation for this new batch of shows could be a little higher.

will i give it a chance? of course.. but here's hoping its not going to be all about the stereotypes that so many choir students strive to disassociate themselves with in high school, and more about the music.

capping off my night of television will be the latest episode of Top Chef Las Vegas which i am just LOVING this year!, what fun contestants they have this time around, interesting personalities, and there is just the right amount of twists and turns to the usual recipe (pardon the pun) of the show to keep me entertained this year!, tonight's elimination challenge is to cook for an esteemed panel of French Chefs ...so my guy Mattin should do well considering he's from France and is classically trained in french cuisine

did i mention besides music movies and TV I'm also obsessed with cooking? i just might share from recipes on here with you guys some day that i enjoy myself!!.

onto some music ! i have two songs I'm going to be telling you about tonight, one came as a request from a friend of mine from Riverfalls Wisconsin, her name is Alex Gehin and shes a total doll, who loves her music just as much as i do !

now just a fair warning, she asked me to talk about the new Miley Cyrus song "Obsessed" and before i do, i should mention that I'm in no way a fan of Miley Cyrus, and never have been.

onto the song, it is actually a good song, its well written, has proper build and a pretty decent climax, everything you look for in a song , or a sexual partner, ha jkjk i had to throw that in.

my only complaint? i just wish it was sang by someone who can actually sing... ha ha the lack of vocal chops has always been the one thing holding me back from Miley Cyrus and her music, I'll be fair i actually find a majority of the songs she releases to be quite catchy, fun pop music, much the same with Taylor Swift, another awful singer, who can write catchy songs.

the song starts off very pretty, and Miley actually is singing better than I've really ever heard her sing, and that's not a lie, but then she quickly plunges head first into the hook...and that's when my ears started to bleed. shes wailing, not singing, and there is a big big difference.

so my final verdict on the song? i would have liked it leaps and bounds more if it had been sung and tweaked a little by someone with the vocal prowess of Lee Ann Womack or even Faith Hill. some country girls who can REALLY SANG.

onto my next little rant

who has heard of The Sugababes ? if no one answered yes, i don't fault you, they are in no way large here in the US , and have really only had success ( 10 years of it ) out in London. they are an electro-dance girl group, consisting of three members.

an interesting fact about this group though however is that they have a revolving door of members, being that the 3 that are currently making music under the name The Sugababes were not the original three members.

at any rate, this is my favorite three-some of ladies!, their music is FUN FUN FUN, and for the most part will never take itself TOO seriously, which is a great gift to have in the music business. their new song titled "About A Girl" was produced by hit maker RedOne who's worked with lady gaga on "just dance" and "poker face".

so of course you know the song will have a bumpin beat, with fun, easy to remember lyrics , and really interesting harmonies that only a girl group can recreate. the song had me jigglin in bed ( yes bed ) the very first time i heard it, and I've been in love ever since!.

the song has a Latin techno island kind of feel..but heavy on the dance beats, music The Sugababes are known for, two of my favorite songs from them are "I'm Never Going To Dance Again" and "My Love Is Pink"

i promise though "About a Girl" will have you singing and dancing along the very first time you hear it!!. props to The Sugababes .

next I'd like to talk about the next song that was released from the upcoming Paramore album "Brand New Eyes"

the song is titled "Brick by Boring Brick" and the song is anything but Boring!! this group has such an awesome way of using different tempo's, harmonies, stellar vocals and great drum beats in almost every song!!. this song is of course no different, and i am looking forward to their new album even more!!

what i love about this song is it comes hard from the beginning, letting us know the second she starts singing that Hayley Williams is quite the vocalist, and boy is she tiny!! this girl is one of the smallest woman I've ever seen ha ha, you know what I'm talking about if you've ever seen Paramore perform live. the power she has is pretty incredible.

finally tonight i would like to actually talk about a solo song i found by Hayley Williams from Paramore for the soundtrack to the upcoming movie Jennifer's Body starring Megan Fox as a sexy killer vampire high school student (From what i can gather from the preview)

the song is called "Teenagers" and dare i say that it almost sounds like a song Hayley could have written back in her teenage angst ? oh wait she's still a teenager! ha.

the song doesn't feel like a Paramore song one bit, which i love, i would have felt some what cheated if they would have slapped the Paramore name onto this song. the song is pretty short, and is guitar driven , with some fun layering of Hayley's vocals to make some pretty kick ass harmonies, it has a really fun build, and hand clap at the end that will have you clapping along, you can also hear the faint sound of perhaps 10-20 people screamin along to the hook at the end with Hayley, that must have been a fun recording session !! wish my ass coulda been there.

the song for me as a whole however, is just too short! its such a good song to be cut off before it even hits the 3 minute mark! i kind of have a hatred for songs that aren't even 3 minutes long, unless of course they're done right. you could argue that this song is just write, but to me its missing that somethin somethin that would make it a repeat listener.

at any rate, that's all for tonight ! damn this might be my first REAL long rant! ha ha

new kat mcphee and chester bennington!

first to the new Katharine McPhee song, brilliance ! it's totally the music i pictured her making while she was on American idol (not that ridiculous pop album she released...which went nowhere, because she had NO business making an album like that in the first place!) its catchy, fun and slightly adult oriented in the change of sound shes going for, but like i said, its the music she should be making, and should have been making from the beginning !

the song is called "Had it All" and its a slice of adult contemporary cherry pie. great opening, with a fun hook, great lyrics and some awesome vocals. I'm excited as hell for her new CD coming out next month ! , its titled "Unbroken" which i think is fitting for miss McPhee. since releasing her debut album, she has been let go from her record label , only to find more success with hit producer David Foster, who lets be honest doesn't work with just anyone, so he clearly See's the raw talent this woman possesses.

her new album will be released on October 7Th, so y'all should check out her new single and definitely check out her next album!!

onto Chester Bennington's solo effort.

for those of you who don't know who Chester is , hes the lead singer of possibly one of my most favorite bands of all time, Linkin Park.

coming off of there somewhat lack luster release of "Minutes to Midnight" I'm not too surprised to see Chester taking this time to do whats probably been in the works for some time, a solo attempt

what i find interesting however, is the fact that the song isn't being released under his name, but instead under the title Dead by Sunrise , which features two members from the band Julien-K.

so the question is, how do they mix, and how do they compare to linkin park (neither of which i think are unreasonable questions to ask, and will probably be the questions that are asked the most anyways. ) My personal thought on the first, is that they mix fairly well, the song titled "Fire" is far more mainstream than say linkin parks first few releases, but not as far from the linkin park that we currently know, so the sound is a familiar one.

but how does it compare to linkin park? well ... it just doesn't. i understand this is currently just a 'side' project, but i feel like there is a lack of enthusiasm in the song, a lack of grit and feeling, something i almost always feel while listening to Linkin Park.

who knows, maybe its going to have to take a few more listens for me to really warm up to this song, but as of right now, I'm still just waiting patiently for the next Linkin Park album, which due to this, probably wont be coming out for quite some time.

Dead by Sunrise's debut album titled "Out of Ashes" is scheduled for release on Oct. 18Th.

Well thats all for now! , i need to go wake my mother up from her nap ! holla at yo' boy!!

can we please?

talk about the new Leona Lewis song "Happy" for a minute?

well it will take less than a minute, because i dont even think the song deserves a full listen.

ok you caught me, i've listened to it a few times, i heard that if you did this, the song becomes some how amazing, beautiful, powerful, moving , ETC.... so i was like well i bet thats probably true!, except after repeated listens, i still find it hard to enjoy.

first of all , its co-written by Ryan Tedder the singer from onerepublic, and the writer of such hits like bleeding love ( another leona lewis song ) halo by beyonce and already gone by kelly clarkson, among many others... but i bring up those three, because lets face it people "Happy" her new song, is basiculy a rip off of all of those other songs!!, same beat , same 'feel' to the song, same piano driven opening verse, followed by the larger than life chorus, followed by the piano and drum driven second verse, etc etc.

its starting to make me feel like Ryan Tedder might be a one trick pony....or maybe hes not, but he knows what makes money?

thats my best guess

at any rate.. the song is just ok, a total let down coming from a leona lewis fan, i just hope her sophomore album "Echo" due out in november doesnt disappoint the way this lead single does.

anyone hear the new carrie underwood song?

so i was really let down the first time i heard it, and now i cant get enough of it!!!

its called Cowboy Casanova .. i know the title is super lame, but wow after a few listens to the song you just want to listen to it over and over!!

this is the first time her new single from her upcoming album hasnt been a balad, so it might surprise a lot of fans, but i dont think this is a teller of what type of music she'll have, im sure she'll still have her classic power country ballads on her new album, but i think she just wanted to try something a little different this time around!

i've been trying to figure out a way to post just audio files to a blog, and not a video, so if anyone knows how to do that please let me know!! i can come back and edit this post then with the song file so you can all hear it!

onto some none carrie underwood news

hows everyone feelin about Mariah Carey's new songs? "Obsessed" and her cover of the Foreigner classic "I want to know what love is" ??

i wasnt feeling "i want to know what love is" at all while listening to it on my computer, but once i got (a bad download) on my ipod and listened to it on my surround sound system in my room, i was loving it. her voice actually sounds in tip top shape on this track! its pretty hot, plus you cant go wrong with a big ass gospel choir singing behind you during the climax! loves me some MC, WARNING though, the end notes might make your ears bleed...she somehow foun a way to sing even higher than before haha , damn does this bitch have no limit to her range?! its insane

"obsessed" is totally my new joint though, again...at first listen i thought it was just average, but i've heard it enough times now to really be able to disect the song into each section, and hear where she was going with the song, it was the same for me with a lot of the tracks off of her 2008 album "E=mc2" , but damn i love it now!! its such a club hoppin joint i cant even get over it!!, great tempo, sexy melodies, goofy lyrics that we've come to know from mariah in the past ( "i can see right through you, its like you bathed in windex " comes to mind) and of course she whails at the end to give the song a proper build and climax.

love me some mariah.

anyways im off for the day! toodles

my 1st post!

hey everyone, so i've been sitting here trying to come up with what i want to write about ! well i think my rants will be mainly about music, since i love it so much, so expect to hear about some artists and their albums that im currently diggin, i'll throw in some movie news as well since im a big movie fan as well!, you can also expect some personal entries as well , because we all need to vent sometimes!

so to start off my blog imma tell you a little about the music i've been enjoying lately !

A Fine Frenzy - "Bomb in a Birdcage"

so this is the sophomore effort from a band i absolutely love! and now love EVEN more!!, their first cd was pretty good, but it wasnt spotless, it had some filler (most albums do) but there were definite tracks that i would skip on that cd.

their new one though is just incredible! no joke, im so surprised, they've been a group that i have been sort of worried about, i wasnt sure what their creative limits would be, but they surprised me on this new cd!!

it starts off with a simple quitar driven song called 'wouldnt do' and has some of the cutest lyrics i've ever heard in a song, only to switch it up right at the end and become a somber tune.. but thats a fine frenzy for you ! their name says it all.

the album quickly jumps into another song ( track 1 is just over 2 minutes long), and the group is clearly showing their roots , while tweeking it just right.

needless to say , the album from their goes onto some really fun light enjoyable tracks , while still providing some more subdued tracks as well. they did a lot of growing on this cd and i think it would be worth while for any A Fine Frenzy fan, as well as new comers to check this cd out! it comes out this upcoming tuesday (Sept. 8th), dont ask me how i got it early :p

Whitney Houston - "I look to You"

oh whitney.... how i miss your voice, this cd as a gay man , is bangin, and it didnt take me long to really feel the tracks, it also has a great sequence for the tracks...the cd flows so well.

but her voice! oh noooo, its a whisper of what it used to be. its really quite a shame, a woman who was so talented is now someone who is mediocre at best in the vocal department.

atleast i can go back and listen to her old school jams whenever i want and belt that shit out like theres no tomorrow!

Ingrid Michaelson -"everybody"

i was shocked to pick up the weekly ads a few weeks back to see ingrid had a new cd coming out ! she just released one last year! and we're now onto number 3!!

but let me just say, she is showing no signs of slowing, this new album of hers opens with one of my favorite tracks by her , ever , its called "soldier" .. no its not about that kind of soldier , but its a metaphor for people who fight for love each day, and how the battle with the heart isnt easily won, but it can be.

ingrid's lyrics are some of the best i've read and heard in a long time, i compare her often to one of my favorite singer / songwriters of all time, sarah mclachlan.

her music has a certain something about it that really reaches to my soul, i often get emotional while listening to her. shes quite the talent in my eyes.

Jordin Sparks' sophomore album titled "battlefield" is pretty solid, its pure pop music, so theres not much to really write about either way, theres a decent amount of fillers that i find myself always skipping over, but there are some real pop gems on that album. her voice also sounds pretty good compared to her debut album, so heres hopin that she starts spreading her wings a little more next time and try to develope more of a sound that she can call her own, otherwise i fear she may only get the chance to make one more album.

Gossip - "Music For Men"

so apparently this group has been around since '99, i have no clue why we're just now really hearing from them ! on their 4th studio album (Their first produced by a major label) we hear their clear nack for creating interesting, well rounded, disco-punk, and on some tracks, pure punk music.

i loved this cd so much i went back and downloaded their entire 10 year catalog ( a lot of EP's and live albums) and all i can say is wow! if you like good punk music, this is for you, the lead singer Beth Ditto has an incredible voice, and writes some really amazing lyrics

i have a special bond with this band, because Ditto herself is a lesbian , so you can often hear a pro-homosexuality tone to the lyrics, but its NEVER over abundant, you'd probably have to be a homosexual to really get it, so dont let that deter you ! , its really refreshing music that you should listen to VERY LOUD

well im off for now! i think this was a really succesful first entry

yayyy
